When disaster struck Manhattan in summer 2008, the aftermath left many people with unanswered questions. “Where do I turn for help?” “How can I help those who need it?” YOU can be the answer!

Mission

The Disaster Relief Ministry exists to unite faith-based organizations in the Manhattan area to serve for the glory of God in times of emergency. We work to coordinate volunteers, identify needs and collaborate work efforts within the community of Manhattan and nearby areas.

Who we are

The Disaster Relief Ministry is a collaboration of believers from several area churches. We unite for community disaster relief and put aside our differences of sect or denomination. University Christian Church handles our administrative and technical support, but participation in the Disaster Relief Ministry is open to members of all churches.

What we do

We are active throughout the year. Members of the ministry work diligently to acquire equipment and supplies, network with local agencies, participate in continuing education, and teach community members how to prepare for disasters.

How we can help you

During times of imminent danger, we encourage the public to always call 911 first. Once a threat to life or property has been handled by police, fire or EMS, we are here to help you and your family put the pieces back together. We seek to provide food, shelter, clean-up and crisis chaplaincy.

How you can help us

If you or your church group has a desire to serve during community emergencies, we welcome you. Please contact us to get our meeting schedule and join our e-mail list. We are also able to provide receipts for any tax-deductible donations you can offer, including tools, equipment and supplies.
