WHAT WE BELIEVE
History
University Christian Church is an independent Christian fellowship. We are part of what was historically called the Restoration Movement. This movement sought to get rid of the divisions within the churches that had spread across the country almost two centuries ago, and come to agreement on two very basic principles.
-
The authority of the Bible.
- Unity.
These simple goals meant we would accept what scripture says and we would follow as closely as humanly possible the teachings and practices the New Testament sets forth. Early on in the development of our churches, we realized not everyone would agree about everything, so a motto was coined. “In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, love.” The essentials are those things scripture teaches are matters of salvation and forgiveness of sin: grace, faith, repentance, baptism, and continuing to follow Christ. Things that are not essential for salvation or personal agreement include topics such as Millennial positions, the role of miraculous gifts and church polity. We, as a church, agree that while there are many denominations, we will just be called Christians. Not the only Christians, but by name, Christians only.
Purpose
With the guidance of the New Testament, the purpose of University Christian Church is as follows:
-
This church is to make known the Gospel of Christ's death and resurrection as the means by which the world is to be reconciled to God.
-
It is to provide a ministry where those who respond to this Gospel may grow in grace and knowledge, come to fullness of life in Christ, and be equipped for His service.
-
It is to reclaim the warmth of Christian fellowship as the prized and joyful expression of its corporate oneness with Jesus Christ.
-
It is to possess that living hope whereby it knows its destiny to be the eternal enjoyment of the presence of God.
-
It is to glorify God through its worship, its witness, its service and its life, both now and forevermore.
